Day Seventy (Mateus)
“Your Majesty, the keybearers from Daybreak Town are here.”
Queen Grimhilde tore her gaze away from her mirror, and the face within it vanished into smoke. “Send them in, then.”
The servant bowed low, then stepped back to hold the door open as three teenagers meandered in: Their leader, a tall boy with long blond hair, dressed in clothes of fine purple and gold; a rather scantily clad boy with a mane of silver hair and a generally disinterested expression; and a brawny boy with short cut golden hair and a sour expression.
“Mateus, of Ursus Union,” the leader said, and gestured to his companions. “This is Kuja and Noah. I’ve heard you want to make a trade with us?”
“Quite,” the Queen murmured. “You’re here seeking hearts, yes? I have a great many of them preserved in my vault. Ninety-nine, to be precise. Enemies, rivals, those who have wronged me in the past. You can have them all, and I only want one small thing in return.”
Mateus smirked, tilting his head. “What’s that, then?”
“There is a girl, out picking flowers at the edge of the woods. I need you to go and take something from her,” the Queen said. “Bring me the heart of Snow White.”
